The blend of youth and experience nearly paid dividends on the trip to Norwich. However it was not to be. Indeed, it could have an occasion when the prospect of appearing for the first time for a senior side proved daunting for the emerging stars of the Senior Academy, but these youngsters are made of sterner material.
After a hesitant start by the whole team, the boys from Soldiers' Alley stepped up and against a well drilled physical Norwich team, showed they were going to be no push over. It was a well balanced team that took to the field but even after the injury to the hard running Conrad enforced a move to the centre for the newly arrived talent of Stefan, the away team continued to battle. It was not until the last minute of the first half when the team were down to 14 players, due to injury, that the home took the lead through a well worked move from a quick penalty.
The blue and golds turned round 5 - 0 down and after two quick tries at the start of the second period soon found themselves 17 - 0 down. At this point the whole game could have slipped away but individually and collectively the whole team began to dig deep. None more so than the new Academy players: Euan Renny, Frazer Briers, Mason Collom, Jack O'Toole and Alfie Fordham. In circumstances where safety would have been the favoured option, they continued to run the ball and put the home team under pressure. After one such break from Frazer (Man Of The Match) and some smart interplay with captain Carl, the latter scored a fine try in the corner. Moments later Enfield Ignatians were awarded a penalty try after consistent forward pressure lead by the Moose.
From then the game faltered into periods of great pressure by the home team and interruptions to the game caused by minor injuries. Indeed Enfield finished the game with uncontested scrums and thirteen fit (more or less!) players on the field, but they held firm.
