IGNATIANS YOUNGSTERS SPARKLE IN HARROW TENS TOURNAMENT

It's big a good year for the Enfield Ignatians' U16s which culminated with a first success on their maiden journey in the Harrow Tens Tournament after mastering Fullerians 1s 14-0 in the final at the home of Harrow RFC on Sunday {April 23}.

The pace of Lawrence Loo proved key as he twice used his considerable pace to unlock the defence. Euan Renny, another key lynchpin, successfully applied both drop-kick conversions as Ignatians asserted their authority.

Not that Ignatians weren't tested as Fullerians, ever dangerous with the ball in hand, had their moments and looked odds-on to score, but a crucial tap-tackle from Lucas Yoxall thwarted their most dangerous attacking move.

It was certainly sweet revenge for Ignatians as Fullerians had been only the only side to beat the blue and golds in the pool stages following a tense 7-5 showdown.

Despite the loss, Ignatians topped Pool A following comfortable 21-7 and 33-7 wins over Old Albanians Is and Harrow, and they were even more emphatic after outclassing Old Albanians IIs
56-0 in their semi-final.

Ignatians' spokesman Andrew Robinson said: "The team conducted themselves with discipline and honour and played some quality rugby. Every member of the squad played with their heart on their
sleeves and the team proved themselves deserved winners of the tournament."

The Enfield Ignatians' U15s, the winners of the plate final of the Harrow Tens Tournament last year, made a bold bid as regards defending their title. The scores were evenly poised at 14-14 going to the final minutes until Stockwood Park landed two late tries to triumph 28-14.

Ignatians had beaten Stockwood Park 33-7 in the pool stages which stopped the rot following earlier 42-21 and 35-12 losses to Fullerians and Barnet in Group A. This fired the blue and golds into the plate semi-finals which they won comfortably by mastering Watford 24-0.

A brace of tries by a fired-up Feidhlim Ginty, allied to one apiece from Karyiek Dixon and Jamal Daley-Bonner, proved crucial in the win against Watford. Dixon also landed a brace in the final.

Coach Colin Pennicott said: "We were in a tough pool but got better as the tournament progressed. The final was certainly winnable but we lost focus at key moments and that proved our undoing."

Finally, congratulations to the Welsh side Beddau. The journey from the valleys proved its weight in gold as they successfully defended their title in U15s' mainstay tournament. Playing some scintillating rugby they dominated Fullerians 21-0 in the final.

A big thank you, too, to Harrow RFC who proved exemplary hosts. Hopefully, we will see you again next year.
