It’s official as the U15s are champions of Herts-Middlesex Division Five. Not that it was ever in doubt but, in the wake of some administrative hurdles which needed to be sorted out by the league administrators, they can at last relax their grip and enjoy the moment.
For the record, the team, under the guidance of Steve Corcoran, David ‘Alfie’ Hitchcock and Dale Gardener, cut a swathe through the division, having seen off the challenges of Old Albanians B (45-0), Twickenham (45-0) and Ruislip (50-5).
They then travelled to west London to face up to Hillingdon Abbots, a side which had beaten Ignatians last season, but with our opponents struggling for numbers, the game was played as a ‘friendly’ and was won handsomely by the visitors.
For official purposes, the game was recorded as a 45-0 away walk over – ditto the intended finale against Hitchin B, who had loomed as dangerous opponents, but, unable to field a full complement, they, too, conceded the fixture (45-0).
So well done to the U15s which have been very busy this season. They also have a tour to look forward to as they deservedly contemplate life in a higher division next season.
The Enfield Independent are also planning on publishing an article on the U15s title winning exploits on Wednesday 2 April.
