The Enfield Ignatians Pulsars returned victorious from their maiden away game, defeating Belsize Park 5th XV 41-7 in a hard fought game at Regent's Park.
In the process the team continued fundraising for good causes, raising nearly £2,500 for Macmillan Cancer Support, by shearing the hirsute Pulsar Shane O'Brien as part of the 'Brave the Shave' campaign.
Boosted by several new faces and a cohort of loyal pitchside supporters, the team put in a convincing performance in a hard fought game.
After weathering an early storm, the Pulsars went into the half time break protecting a 5 point first half lead, courtesy of a try from Pulsars debutant, and man of the match, Emmanuel Sonubi.
The second half continued to be tight but the Pulsars wrestled control of the game from their opponents through some powerful ball carrying and aggressive defence.
Even the sin binning of Chris Lyons and some questionable interpretation of breakdown rules from Mario Di Gregorio were unable to stop the team, in a second half that saw some moments of champagne rugby from the away side.
A cross field kick from Leighton Thomas found Captain Chris Lyons who scored one of his two second half tries. John Georgiou, Emmanuel Sonubi both scored after powerful, direct runs through the Belsize midfield. A try from Mario Di Gregorio and three conversions (Neil Carlson 2, Bill William) added to the scoreline.
The Pulsars saved the best until last when James Galea rounded off move that spanned the width of the pitch, crashing over for a last minute try to complete proceedings.
Pulsars Captain Chris Lyons said "It was a tough game, against good opponents who showed us great hospitality. It's great to get another win under our belts, to raise so much money for a good cause and to catch up with friends old and new. It's what the Pulsars are about".
