HARPENDEN IIs 29 ENFIELD IGNATIANS II 3

The twos have hit a couple of stumbling blocks in the last fornight and another visit to Hertfordshire, following
that to Hemel Hempstead, again proved less than pleasurable after Harpenden IIs ruled the roost 29-3 in the Herts-Middlesex Merit Table Two showdown.

Not that the scoreline tells the whole story and, to a a certain extent, the blue and golds can feel a little aggrieved. Team spokesman Paul Duke said: "The game was played in perfect conditions - there was no wind - although it was foggy and Harpenden certainly had nifty backs and a mobile pack.

"However, we, too, played our part and had three tries disallowed at various points during the game. The referee was probably correct in one of the decisions, as the ball went forward, yet the two other decisions were far less clear-cut and it's a shame that they went against us."

However, there's no denying that Harpenden were the sharper of the two sides and they were very laid the foundations in the first-half following by establishing a 12-0 lead.

Sadly, not much went right for Ignatians after the interval. They shipped another three tries, including an
interception effort, although it wasn't until two minutes before time that Harps nailed their fifth and final killer
blow, as the visitors consoled themselves with a solitary Paul Duke penalty.

The half-back added: "It only seems right to salute the final game in club honours of Seyi Adeosun before he goes travelling to South America .Tom Cox (the older brother of first-team scrum-half George} played well at nine and Josh Webb (uni returnee) had a solid game in the front row."
